2017 Haiku Vineyard Chardonnay, Mendocino County
Select rows from this single vineyard fronting the headwaters of the Russian River in the shadow of the Mayacamas range yield yeasty, piecrust aromas on top of lemon blossom scents. Tropical fruit with zesty citrus overtones highlight the palate with hints of vanilla dancing on balanced acidity.
2017 Mes Filles Vineyard Chardonnay - Russian River Valley
The southwestern-most vineyard of the Russian River Valley receives cool, maritime influences and manifests complex caramelized sweet scents of ginger, spiced custard crust, burnt peat and Asian spices. The palate picks up prolonged broad flavors of figs, almonds and citrus with bright acidity.
2017 Manchester Ridge Vineyard Chardonnay - Mendocino Ridge
Wild aromas of jasmine and honeysuckle with the fragrance of a field of wildflowers after a rain. Caramelized nectarines and white peaches vie for prominence on the lacy palate and are soothed by a soft vanilla kiss. Acidity is crisply self-assured and in balance with high, sea cliff expressions.
2017 van der Kamp Vineyard Pinot Noir - Sonoma Mountain
Floral aromatics and forest floor followed by baking spices, particularly cinnamon and nutmeg. High-toned red fruit with hints of watermelon, light stone fruit and strawberry cream; a lilting journey owing to partial whole-cluster fermentation finessed by high mountain tannins and balanced acidity.
2017 Hawks Roost Ranch Pinot Noir - Russian River Valley
Powerful spicy aromas accented by camphor and flinty wet stone announce this muscular pinot from the heart of the Russian River Valley. Cranberry, fruit compote and spice roll sumptuously along the palate in a structure that never lets the tannins or acidity run as wild as they might be inclined.
2017 Mes Filles Vineyard Pinot Noir - Russian River Valley
Intensely dark color - aromas of smoke, bayberry, mushroom, black pepper, spice and forest floor from this maritime-cool hillside vineyard on the extreme southwest corner of the Russian River Valley. Near ripe wild blackberry, figs and cola flood on the palate. Mouthfeel is prolonged and opulent.
2017 van der Kamp Vineyard Pinot Meunier - Sonoma Mountain
Ebullient, fickle, flirtatiously delicate, this wine has been pampered by careful handling during whole-cluster fermentation. Its floral fragrance is laced with huckleberry, maraschino cherry, dried herbs and tea-rose blossoms. At play on the palate are citrus zest, raspberry and confected fruit.
2017 Oppenlander Vineyard Pinot Noir - Mendocino County
Brambly, peppery, herbed smoked meats laced with maple syrup power the scent of fruit from this obscure vineyard amid a redwood forest clearing in a remote, but maritime cool site in Mendocino County. Flavors are intense and complex with near-ripe wild blackberry and cranberry on the late palate.
2017 Jessie's Grove Ancient Vine Zinfandel - Lodi
An ethereal mélange of zinfandel, Carignan, Flame Tokay, Black Prince and Mission grapes. Pinot-like smoothness achieved from partial whole-cluster fermentation defines the flavors of layered plum, fruit compote and spicy pumpkin with just enough spice to remind that this is predominantly Zinfandel.
2017 Confluence Pinot Noir Cuvée - Russian River Valley
Exotic spices flush from early spring blossoms to announce this aromatic blend from three Russian River estate vineyards. The palate journey is long and smooth, punctuated by dark fruits, prominently blueberries, carried by coursing wet river stone minerality.
2017 Convergence Pinot Noir Cuvée - Mendocino County
Each of the three Mendocino County Vineyards contributes unique attributes of its specific terroir; soil, elevation, microclimate, farming techniques, and mystique. What flows into your glass is a true manifestation of the alchemy we strive to achieve.
2017 Manchester Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir - Mendocino Ridge
Violets, strawberry, herbs and peat are carried by sea smoke from this climatically challenged elevated sea cliff vineyard. These vines overachieve with rewards of Rainier cherries atop spiced cookie dough, dried fruit and bitter orange aided by balanced tannins and acidity along the palate.
2017 Lorenzo Vineyard Chardonnay - Russian River Valley
Breathe in toasted brioche and creme brulée laced with white flowers. White peaches laced with light butterscotch greet the palate followed by mango and papaya confections on vanilla wafers with some toasted almonds thrown in and carried by crisp mineral acidity.
“Inhale the science, exhale the art.” Greg La Follette
What if you could couple one of the world’s most daring winemakers with chancy, enigmatic, sometimes remote, mystical vineyards? Renowned winemaker Greg La Follette and his partner Patrick Dillon produce small-lots of cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from benchmark vineyards of the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Mountain and Mendocino County. As winemakers they embrace the French concept of “elevage,” nurturing their wines through stages, beginning with their grower partners in the vineyards and then raising these wines as their children. Their practice demands inordinate time, patience and good faith. The payoff reveals nuanced complexity in a complete balance of vibrant aromas and tastes.
